Our Sailor Gals have been getting together at the Club on a fortnightly basis for Theory Training. Wednesday night sessions have seen us cover everything from the Rules of Racing, rough weather sailing, knot tying, kite packing and everything else in between. We will now be taking a break while some of us head North for warmer weather sailing and will recommence in September.

Winter Series Race 2

Report by Rod Smallman

A great day of sailing last Saturday with 11 SBSC boats venturing up town for the ORCV passage race to Blairgowrie - woohoo. Most of the boats travelled up on Friday evening for a night of fun at Royal Brighton Yacht Club. The annual flare shoot that preceded the race could only be described as organized chaos but great fun to watch. The wind forecast was for 8-15kts with bursts up to 20kts!! This couldn’t have been more wrong with 0-5kts for most of the day and plenty of large holes. But the sun was out, and the wind came in the last couple of hours to bring us home before the sun went down. The race was shortened to SC19.Only 20 of the 49 boats managed to finish in the light conditions and a whopping 25% being SBSC boats, Balance, Crowded House, Maverick, Patriot, & Rogue with YKnot falling an agonizingly 15 seconds from the sunsetcut-off.

Our boats dominated the results with Patriot taking most of the chocolates – or as is the case with ORCV results, the wine.

Patriot 1st IRC – Div. 1 & Overall 1st AMS – Div. 1 & Overall
1st PHS – Div. 1 & Overall, 2nd Line Honours

Rogue 2nd AMS – Div. 2 1st PHS – Div. 2 & 2nd Overall Balance 2nd AMS – Div. 1 & Overall
Maverick 1st Double Handed2nd PHS – Div.2
